Implant removal PDF Print E-mail
The most common reasons that cosmetic patients wish their breast implants removed is to have either larger implants inserted or because their life style has changed, they are older and so have inevitably gained weight! or a smaller breast seems more appropriate for them.
There are also replacement operations for implant rupture and breast hardening or Capsular Contracture.

Breast implant removal is a relatively simple, uninvolved procedure, performed in the clinic under a general anesthetic. Sometimes the original scar can be used, and the prosthesis removed, however all clients are assessed individually. Depending on the situation all scar tissue may be removed in addition to the breast implants. The main risks are of post-operative bleeding and if the implant is not replaced, the inevitable emotional and physical changes of not having as full a breast as before.

Recovery
Implants replaced-2 weeks, as normal in 6 weeks.
Implants not replaced- a rapid recovery and just a normal two weeks of being careful following surgery is usually all that is required.
