abpic1.jpgIf you're considering an Abdominoplasty partial or full, this information may be of interest to you and will give you a basic understanding of the procedure, when it can help, how it's performed and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on the individual patient. Please do not hesitate to ask me about anything you don't understand or that confuses you. My intention is to help you to make an informed decision and questions will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Introduction: It may be a good idea to postpone surgery if you are planning to loose a lot of weight or if you are planning future pregnancies, due to damage to the muscles and skin the pregnancy will cause. In most cases the results are long lasting if a balanced diet and regular exercise programme are followed. This procedure may be performed as a Partial Abdominoplasty (mini tummy tuck) or as a Full Abdominoplasty (full tummy tuck) there is a difference. Although the resulting scar is long and permanent, it eventually becomes fair and can be hidden below the bikini line.

This procedure is wonderful and can dramatically tighten the abdominal muscles, and remove sagging, excess skin and accumulated fatty tissue. Not only will the abdomen be firmer and flatter, but your waist will be smaller as well. I have see this procedure performed many times and the results are truly amazing.

After years of promising myself, I had this procedure in February 2005 combined with a breast uplift. I have published the events on the site, to show it is possible to have cosmetic surgery, without having to take out a second mortgage, or compromise on surgical expertise. An Abdominoplasty, is not a weight loss procedure. It is designed to remove the excess skin and / or fat that has developed due to the ageing process, after weight loss or pregnancy, and to bring together the abdominal muscles which have separated. If you have been trying to diet, you will know that this area is virtually unaffected by dieting. You loose the fat from your face, your boobs first no problem, but the "baby bag" as one of my clients called it, stubbornly remains.

Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck
If you have an excess of abdominal fat, no excess of skin or stretch marks and good firm elastic skin, you may be a good candidate for liposuction.
On the other hand, if you have a distended abdomen, stretch marks, loose abdominal skin with a hanging fatty abdominal area, (all the more likely after pregnancy), a full Abdominoplasty is probably your best choice.
